After one month of hard work and much effort in order to create a good-looking and professional store, I guess I have to cancel it. And the reason is the Payment Gateways.
I live in Turkey and I got in contact with all the gateways that Shopify supports in this country. Dead end!
Let's start:
Worldpay told me that they don't make business with merhants from Turkey.
Checkout.com told me that I need to have $10k of revenue and then we can discuss.
Netbilling told me that I need to have $20k of revenue before considering to work with me.
PayPal -as you probably- know does not operate in Turkey.
Skrill told me that they have to see my website going live and then we can discuss. I checked reviews about this payment gateway and out of 5 stars it had only 1 star! FULL of complaints by Skrill users.
Two turkish gateways (Garanti and PayU Turkiye) charge too much and they keep causing problems as well.
Nobody told me that I would have to face all these problems just because I happened to live in Turkey and not in the West. After so much time and efforts, I was so happy and excited about the launch and I realized that I cannot do it because of the payment gateways.
My complaint is that Shopify could update its info from time to time so that new merhants know what's going on. For example why have Worldpay as a supported gatewaye while they say that they don't do business with Turkey any more? Please tell people that come from countries other than the West that they will face problems with the gateways or that some of them have a threshold of say 10k or 20k revenue.
It's such a pitty that I have to leave my dream. I really believed so much in my Shopify store but I have to quit it. Amazon found a solution for the non-western countries and it's called Payoneer. A great and super-fast solution. Why Shopify doesn't do the same in order to protect its new merchants?
Thank you.
