Dave E commented on Making extra labels using Shopify-included shipping service?

Hey Jeff!

Dave here from  the Guru Team :)

The best way to get a new label printed is to create a draft order - especially if re-shipping items this can help keep your inventory in check. You can then override the price of that order with a discount so as not to be adding a monetary value to the order. This way you can get an accurate shipping label for the products being shipped.

I hope this helps!

All the Best,
Dave | Shopify

How to ship orders on a per item basis? by Bert (MH)

Hi all,

I'm new here with Shopify.

My shop is selling books, and our policy is that we will ship orders per book (not per order), so every book will fit in the mail box.
I'm now trying to set up the shipping settings on the checkout page to add shipping cost per item.
All books will have the same shipping cost (which will only depend on country).

I'm looking for hints on how to do this. So far I found nothing in the online manual pages, nor on the forum.
Do I have to create my own shipping-calculator?

Thank you,
Bert

Hey Bert!

There are a couple ways to do this, if all your books weigh the same, or your not using the total order weight to purchase shipping labels, you can set your shipping rates based on weight. So lets say for example you'd have all your books at 1lb, at $2 per book for shipping. your shipping rates would go:

0-1lb - 2$
1.1-2lb - 4$
2.1-3lb - 6$     etc.

The other alternative would be to use an app like Better Shipping to set up all your products shiping on a per product basis. You would need to have carrier calculated shipping enabled on your shop to use this app!

Let me know if you have any other questions!

cheers!

Inventory Notifications/Report Needed by bouldergirl1084

Hi There,

We use Shipwire as our 3PL and have it tied to our Shopify store. Shipwire offers terrible automatic inventory reporting; I was hoping to use Shopify to do this by ideally creating a notification/report that could be emailed to my team (ie my sales team needs to know these numbers daily so they can work with customers on orders/manage their expectations. And in a perfect world, I'd love a notification on an order-level if someone purchases an item that is out of stock. I just realized that this isnt even possible via Shopify; they direct you to apps... some of which seem super expensive for something that should be simple.

Anyone have a solution that is working? Or is there something that I'm missing?

Can't use Shopify Payments? by DouglasN

Hi! I've just opened a new account on Shopify a week ago. However, as soon as my account was set-up, I received an email from Frans from Risk Analyst saying my shop is too risky to use Shopify payments. But I haven't done anything with my shop aside from opening it, and I've never had an account here before. I called to ask why I couldn't use Shopify payments and was told Frans would email me about why. I haven't received anything from him in roughly a week, so I called support and they said they'd email me today, which they did. Again telling me I can't use Shopify Payments, but also not giving any reason.

Can anyone help with this? It seems like I'm getting the run-around a little..

thank you!

What sort of products do you sell? It's very common for payment gateways to have rules in place for items that may be considered high risk.

Hi Jason, thanks for the response! :) I haven't offered any products for sale in my store yet. In fact, I haven't done anything with it. I receive the letter from Frans within 10 minutes of creating my first Shopify account. But I *hope* to just sell basic apparel once this issue is resolved.

Sounds like something to wait for a reply on in this case. If it's not product related perhaps there's other risk factors that have been taken into consideration. That's not something you'll get answers on via the forum.

thanks jason! :) like I said, the only response I got back was confirming I cant use Shopify Payments, but no reasons for why. Is there someone else I could ask to speak with rather than just basic phone support? thanks again!

Hi Terri,

I'm Kris, a Shopify guru.

You are correct in that cart reservations last 5 minutes, so if a customer adds a product to their cart it will be saved for them during this time to complete the purchase and eliminate the chance of overselling, according to your inventory levels.

Products that are saved in the cart are kept there by browser cookies, so they will remain until the cookie is cleared by the shopper's browser. For this reason, the time frame will vary, but the cookies are set to automatically clear when someone reaches the "thank you" screen.

This makes it as easy as possible for your customers to come back and purchase items left in the cart, assuming they are still in stock. If a product is no longer available, an out of stock warning is generated before the checkout can be completed.

Hope this helps "clear" things up for you! Feel free to contact us if you have any other questions. :)

Add on items by Chris Mar

I am looking for a way to make certain items add on only items. They are cheaper items that I only want customers to be able to buy them if they buy one of my main products. I haven't found a way to do this and if there is one help would be greatly appreciated.

Dear User,

I'm from Payfort and shall be happy to clarify your doubts on this. You can write to me at jsidhu@payfort.com

Actually as per the regulations of the central banks and acquiring bank's policies payment gateway companies cannot offer services to clients who are individuals. As a mandatory requirement one should have a business entity or trade licence.

Hope this clarifies.

Thanks,

Can't pay for domain and plan! by Hashem

I am trying to buy a domain and a plan but I am not able. For the plan it says (We could not verify your credit card. Transaction failed.)
I tried using my brother's credit card, same thing. I also tried changing computers and browsers nothing seems to work.
I usually buy stuff online with this card and no problems happen. What is wrong?

I am using a multicurrency master card. (Debit card) and I just had a call with my credit card company and they mentioned that shopify is a supported merchant. And that I do have balance and should not be having problems with purschasing a domain.
Please help.

Hey there Scotty!

Justin here from the Shopify Support Team! Thanks for reaching out to us today!

Have you researed all of these Payment Gateways?

I do know 2Checkout is quite popular and is used by a wide variety of our Merchants. Have you reached out to them yet?

You are correct with PayPal, only PayPal Express Checkout is availble in the UAE on Shopify; so the other plan levels of PayPal (the ones that allow credit cards) are not integrated at this time :(

Let me know how 2Checkout works out :)

Hey there Martyn!

Justin here from the Shopify Support Team! Thanks for reaching out to us !

Great question! Both the Better Shipping App: https://apps.shopify.com/better-shipping& the Bespoke Shipping App: https://apps.shopify.com/custom-shipping-rates allow for you to customize Product shipping requirements on a country or a ZIP/Postal Code level.

However, both of these Apps do require Carrier Calcauted Shipping from Shopify added onto your account. You can find out more about CCS here: https://help.shopify.com/manual/shipping/rates-and-methods/carriers this can be added to your account à la cárte for $20.00 USD/month or it is included on our Annual Plans or Advanced Shopify Plan.

Let me know if you have any other questions at all !

Hi Chris!

Diana here from the Shopify Support Team.

You can create your add-on products as you would any other product, but what you may want to do is use an upsell App like Upsell Hero by Booster Apps (or any of these other fine Apps available) and build an upsell based on those products. Then, just ensure that those add-on products are excluded from any collections on your site to make sure that visitors won't simply navigate to them and add those products separately. You may need to manually rebuild the 'All Products' collection to exclude the add-on products, but it should definitely be possible.

I've also tested using the Upsell Hero App to build an offer and then hiding the add-on product from the storefront using the 'Visibility' checkbox; it will still allow the item to be added to the cart, but if your customer then clicks on the add-on title, it will redirect to a 404, which isn't super-ideal. Possible, but not as elegant.

If neither of those options seem fitting, you can also talk with a Shopify Development Expert to custom-code a solution for you.

Hope this helps! :)

Diana S commented on Percent Discount Plus Free Shipping

Hi Hannah!

Diana here from the Shopify Support Team.

Currently, the Shopify platform only allows for one discount to be applied to an order at a time. You can build percent- or dollar-off discounts and you can build free shipping discounts, but only one code can be applied at checkout at a time.

What you may be able to do is make use of an App like Customer Pricing by BOLD; for those customers to whom you want to offer a discount, you can tag them and offer them special pricing when they log in. Since the App doesn't rely on coupon codes, they can then also use a free shipping discount code you can provide to them.

Otherwise, you can also manually build their orders for them in the Admin, as you can manually set discounts as well as shipping rates before sending off the invoice to be paid. However, if you have a large volume of these customers, or if they order from you very frequently, it may be more work than you want to do manually.

Take a look at those options and see if either suits your needs. Hope this helps! :)
